Job Description

Our client is a UK-based accounting practice seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join their team remotely from South Africa.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience working in a UK accounting practice, with practical exposure to UK tax compliance and accounting processes.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage tax-related work accurately and independently.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review UK personal and business tax returns
Prepare Self Assessment tax returns
Assist with Corporation Tax computations and returns
Prepare tax computations and supporting schedules
Handle VAT returns and related tax compliance where required
Assist with year-end accounts and tax-related accounting adjustments
Review financial records to identify tax implications and potential issues
Ensure tax returns and submissions are accurate and completed within required deadlines
Maintain accurate client records and supporting documentation
Liaise with clients regarding tax information, queries and outstanding documentation
Research and apply relevant UK tax legislation and HMRC requirements
Identify tax planning opportunities and escalate more complex matters where appropriate
Work closely with accountants and senior members of the practice
Assist with HMRC correspondence and queries
Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with professional standards

Required Skills

Minimum 2 years’ hands-on experience as a Tax Accountant within a UK accounting practice – NON-NEGOTIABLE
Practical experience with UK taxation and compliance
Experience preparing UK Self Assessment tax returns
Experience with Corporation Tax
Good understanding of UK tax legislation and HMRC processes
Previous experience working with UK-based clients
Strong accounting and tax technical knowledge
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Good organisational and time-management skills
Experience with Xero
Experience with IRIS, Sage, Taxfiler or similar UK accounting/tax software
